Things in My House Thursday V

I'm a little behind in my blog updates...I take pictures...I have ideas...but...busy...busy...busy! So...Things in My House...we recently bought some furniture for the family room. It was always such a hodge podge of stuff, so after the spring when everyone had water in their lower levels, we decided not to put everything back downstairs. We bought a new computer desk and bookshelves...and it won't be long before they are all filled!

What'cha Workin' On Wednesday

What have I been working on Wednesday...Thursday...Friday...we are getting ready for our Winterfest Arts Festival. I am making some Santas. I love this beard fabric! Tonight...I'm stuffing their arms and stitching them together...
Also...making another batch of tins. This is how they start out. Several people save food cans for me. I strip the labels and wash them thoroughly. This is the first layer of paint...it's a spray paint primer. It has to be a really nice day, because I set up in the garage, with the doors open and spray several cans at once...

High School Cross Country

Our youngest daughter was a cross country runner. We have some great memories following the team. She was on the Varsity squad for six year. These athletes train hard all year long. Emily would run over 300 miles, just in the summer. These athletes develop a close relationship...like a family. These pictures are from one of our home meets a few years ago. She loved to go out fast... (Jake, do you recognize the athlete wearing red that is behind Emily?) Anyway, Emily won this race by 45 seconds. She still holds the school record for the fastest time recorded for a 3000 meter race and a 4000 meter race. This year's top runner at Central has alot of talent. Her times are within seconds of Emily's, in fact, this year's team has alot of talent...Tomorrow is the State Meet...and our girls are contenders for the State Title...
Let's Go, Eagles!

Whatcha workin' on Wednesday? End of Term Chaos

What would I rather be working on? My Pilgrims...
What am I actually working on? Well, 1st term ended today...2nd term starts tomorrow...
Imagine, this could make any teacher crazy!

So today, I brought closure to my current classes. I accepted makeup work from students who had been gone taking the psat, and playing volleyball, football, cross country and soccer; I checked in 120 textbooks; I had the final buffet with my fitness students and their final evaluations were written and handed in; the personal development final projects are due; and those students' journals were handed in. I took down posters from the walls and put away files and resources used to teach those two classes.

Also today, I prepared for new classes that start tomorrow.
I printed new class lists; ran off copies of course outlines/classroom expectations; organized introductory activites for new classes; checkout out the necessary video from the library; and made sure my classroom was tidy...well, as tidy as possible!

Tonight I am entering test and project grades from my old fashioned gradebook into my online gradebook.

And why do we end the term in the middle of the week? I guess every career job will have days that are more stressful than others...

The calendar is set up so that each of the four terms is equal in length...and I do appreciate that!

Family Weekend

Last weekend at this time, we were among other parents and families visiting their college age sons and daughters in their new homes.

The university plans a variety of activites so that there is something for everyone. We enjoyed breakfast with the Thundar the Mascot while listening to the Jazz Combo.
We took our daughter off campus for a couple of meals...The appetizer platter at Applebees is big enough to share for a pregame "snack"
We had fun at the game, even though our team didn't win.
Other weekend highlights included visiting one of my good friends from college (we stayed in their lovely home), shopping (of course), brunch in the dining center, and hanging out in the dorm.
Thank you for a great weekend!

Monday Holiday

Having today at home provided precious time for catching up on projects at home and for my Etsy shop. Pictured, here, is my very faithful assistant, Callie.

Whatcha workin' on Wednesday?

Church Directory Photos....the first since we have been empty nesters. It felt funny to go, just us...after all, we had been taking photos with children since our first in 1985.

Now, girls...these are the only pics that I have of the two of you. I have posted them here for you to choose... Unless you want to be on the "not pictured" list. You should decide on a photo to include in the directory. Let me know which one you like best. Or submit something that either of you might have in your picture file.

I realize that not all of these are appropriate for our church directory, but I sure had fun going through my picture file! Yes, anyone can vote...but the final pick will be made by our girls!

Things In My House Thursday IV

My Grandma's Hats
Remember the days when a lady did not leave the house without a hat...to church...to the store...she always wore a hat! Some for summer, some for cold weather, they were all very charming...
I have my Grandma's hats, and rather than storing them away, I have them on display...some in our guest room, and some in our foyer.
And in the antique picture frame, this sweet little gift that my mom received...handwriting on the back says St.Lukes Girls Dormitory
North Broadway
Fargo, North Dakota
July 26, 1939
And it is signed by her friends...I must find out the rest of the story, as she was only 19 years old at the time...
My Friend
Someone is thinking of you today~
Thinking of you in a friendly way,
Wishing you joy in whatever you do
And hoping this day will hold gladness for you.

Whatcha workin' on Wednesday?

Old Farmhouse Gathering~Holiday Celebration...starts today, October 1st. One of my favorite entries is my "WildMan" Santa...I decided to make another "batch" as I will also need them for our local show, Winterfest....here I have more hand embroidered faces, legs and beards...Anyone interested in purchasing one can check out my Etsy shop or contact me directly.

Scott is in the shop...he is making new display stands for our craft booth. Notice the brad nailer...this is perhaps the best Christmas present he has ever gotten!!

The weather here in South Dakota has been beautiful...almost perfect. My DH also volunteered to make dinner if I picked up something to grill...now would anyone in their right mind pass up that offer?

Back to my Santa Project...I'm in need of some more black belts...I've already used extra black belts from my closet, my husband's closet, and my mother-in-law's closet... guess I'll be heading to Salvation Army tomorrow!

Road Trip ~Day Three ~Burger Battle ~Sweet Shopping Highlights

Our last full travel day took us through four states… Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, and Tennessee. Including some Big Bridges over some Big ...
