GO HUSKERS!!

We had a blast at the game! Here we are pre-game...everyone in the city seems to wear Nebraska gear, whether you are going to the game or not. We gathered at the motel to organize a plan and drive together...

This is just before opening kick off...there were 85,400+ people there. Lots of excitement in the stadium.
Did I mention that it was cold?! Probably not much more than 35 degrees and the wind made it
pretty chilly...our friends from Grand Island are standing on the otherside of our dauther...they are dressed in the typical gear of the day: long underwear, jeans, wind pants, shirt, hooded sweatshirt, Husker parkas, hats, scarves, gloves and boots.

We were each given a balloon to release on the first score...and score, they did! The Huskers beat the Jayhawks 45-35.

We've had a great weekend. Today, we return to the real world including a 7 hour drive home, a bulging bag of schoolwork, and ice and snow in the Dakotas. Since I haven't been in my classroom since last Wednesday, I'm not sure what they accomplished with the sub...
so tomorrow morning,
I plan to punt!

Attending a White Coat Ceremony

Despite Blizzard Warnings, we traveled from North and South Dakota to attend the White Coat Ceremony for our oldest daughter's PA class at her college in Lincoln, NE. Here, we have gathered, just minutes before the ceremony. Our daughters, with their supportive boyfriends...and proud parents.
The ceremony recognizes the third year students as they prepare for their final year of rigorous studies and practical application. Their were remarks by several; inspirational music by an exteremly talented vocal group; and keynote speaker. Then the 3rd year students are called up, one by one, and stand across the front. The 1st years, are called up, one by one, to stand in front of a 3rd year, to receive their white coat.
Here are the before and after pictures. The speakers had talked about the significance of the white coat. I'm sure all the parents there were just as proud as I was...

This is the PA class of 2011

Then...time for photos and refreshments.

I wouldn't have missed this night for the world!

What'cha Workin' On Wednesday?

My DH's new hobby...
He is brewing his own beer...this is the first batch. We tasted it and it has very good flavor. There is quite a process. Measuring...boiling...keeping it in a bucket...sterilizing...putting it in bottles. It will be fun to try all the different varieties.

Here he is sealing the first bottles of his own brew...

And what am I working on?
Well, I'm packng...quite excited, actually...
We will be attending the White Coat Ceremony for our oldest daughter's induction into the Physician Assitant's Program at her college in Lincoln. Our youngest daughter and her boyfriend are meeting us partway there and we will travel together...
Stay tuned for more pictures in the next few days!
We are also preparing for Winterfest. It is the one art show we do locally. Yesterday I had my inventory laid out in the living room...and Lucy, well, can you find her? Cats are so funny!!

Cats just don't get the "time change"...

I tried to tell them that I get an extra hour this morning...but they were persistent in getting their breakfast according to their "clock".
But of course, after breakfast they can just nap the day away...

Wouldn't you just love to be a house cat for just one day?!

Things in My House Thursday V

I'm a little behind in my blog updates...I take pictures...I have ideas...but...busy...busy...busy! So...Things in My House...we recently bought some furniture for the family room. It was always such a hodge podge of stuff, so after the spring when everyone had water in their lower levels, we decided not to put everything back downstairs. We bought a new computer desk and bookshelves...and it won't be long before they are all filled!

What'cha Workin' On Wednesday

What have I been working on Wednesday...Thursday...Friday...we are getting ready for our Winterfest Arts Festival. I am making some Santas. I love this beard fabric! Tonight...I'm stuffing their arms and stitching them together...
Also...making another batch of tins. This is how they start out. Several people save food cans for me. I strip the labels and wash them thoroughly. This is the first layer of paint...it's a spray paint primer. It has to be a really nice day, because I set up in the garage, with the doors open and spray several cans at once...

High School Cross Country

Our youngest daughter was a cross country runner. We have some great memories following the team. She was on the Varsity squad for six year. These athletes train hard all year long. Emily would run over 300 miles, just in the summer. These athletes develop a close relationship...like a family. These pictures are from one of our home meets a few years ago. She loved to go out fast... (Jake, do you recognize the athlete wearing red that is behind Emily?) Anyway, Emily won this race by 45 seconds. She still holds the school record for the fastest time recorded for a 3000 meter race and a 4000 meter race. This year's top runner at Central has alot of talent. Her times are within seconds of Emily's, in fact, this year's team has alot of talent...Tomorrow is the State Meet...and our girls are contenders for the State Title...
Let's Go, Eagles!
