Friday's Flood Efforts

Water is predicted to overflow the banks of Moccasin Creek today. This is a little creek that passes through the city of Aberdeen...and through my mother-in-law's back yard. Sandbags are ready to go at both ends of her street. Emergency Management Personnel are to keep them posted and since she hasn't called, everything must still be OK. The cold temperatures have been in our favor. The picture below is right behind her house. The chainlink fence on the right is her neighbor. The tall evergreens are in Grandma's yard. You can see the water is nearly to the top of the dike. Our family remembers sandbagging here on Easter Weekend in 1997. This, of course, is nothing compared to what people are experiencing in Fargo.

I have been watching this on the news, it's pretty scary, I honestly can't imagine it, but I have to say, I can't get over all the people coming in to help, with sandbagging and whatever else they can do!!
So many GOOD people!
Stay safe!!

Also been watching about Fargo on the news. Hopefully, the water won't overflow the dike at the back of your mother in law's lot.

Been keeping up with the news about the Dakotas. Pretty rugged country!

Mercy! I've dealt with tornadoes, and the threat of tornadoes, but never flooding. I simply cannot imagine. :-o

I assume your mother-in-law has an escape route, if necessary?

It's such a vivid reminder of the flooding disaster that hit our city last summer. It's still a ghost town in some areas. It's so devastating.

Just saw Fargo on the news tonight. It's AMAZING! I hope the waters don't continue to rise by your MIL.
How close are you to Fargo?

Just today my husband and I were listening to the radio and news came on about the floods in your area. I told my husband that "a blogging friend" lives in that area. You've been on my mind today. I hope the flood waters recede and give everyone a reprieve. Take care.

With freezing cold weather, will that slow the water up enough to help?? And I think both of us are having that type of weather. But aren't we scheduled for more rain next week? Oh dear! Should I come with pickup and trailer??

I can't believe how bad things have gotten along the Red River. Let's hope the water doesn't rise anymore, and doesn't go over the dike. That's my prayer. Stay safe!
