All Grown Up

It seems like just last week when my girls were little girls. I was busy folding their clothes, preparing their snacks, picking them up from swimming, dropping them off at dance, planning themed birthday parties, reading stories and checking homework before bedtime.
But they are no longer little girls, they are adults. They are living away from home...folding their own clothes, preparing their own meals, paying their own bills, making their own choices.
It is absolutely wonderful visiting adult children in their homes. I love to see the way they decorate their apartments, shop in the stores that they frequent, eat in their favorite restaurants, and be a part of their daily routine.
This week I am staying with Emily. She is taking Physics and Calculus this summer. We took a break from her books to visit the Heritage-Hjemkomst Center in Moorhead. Here she is with the tour guide. (doesn't he look like cousin Harlan?) Notice the carving around the entrance. That was done by hand and took over a year to complete. It is quite impressive.
Equally impressive is the interior...

Flash photography was not allowed inside most of the museum, but we couldn't resist posing with this couple.

Back home, Emily prepared a delicious meal for us...Chicken Fajitas, Corn, Beans...
Then back to the books. It's midterm.
...and no, I can't check her homework before bedtime anymore.

How sweet...I just can't imagine my girls being off on their own. We are looking at colleges for my oldest (she will be a junior in the fall) I have a hard time seeing them do what it takes to get around on their own....
Love the pictures and the fact that I will have to let go eventually.
Oh, I already can't check homework....too advanced for me already.:0

Natalie,
I know, in a wink of an eye our children are fully grown! As much as I miss the days when mine were little, I enjoy them so much as adults, just as you do. Emily is such a lovely young woman. I can see your face in hers. You must be so proud of your kids! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Loved your post. Bittersweet I suppose when things shift. You want to see them grown and capable yet...
Neat place you visited. Where those supposed to be elephants? Did they have names? Very cute.
