Today...Veteran's Day is one of my favorite days at school, as it is by far, my most favorite school assembly. You can go back to read my blog post from Veterans Day 2008 and to see a picture of my Daddy.
This year I want to feature my mom's gentleman friend, Ken. He is 90 years old and is such a gem. Since my dad died in 1988, I am happy that my mom has found a wonderful companion in Ken. He also served in WWII and was interviewed by our hometown newspaper last November. You can read the article here. Since Line was still not feeling well, she missed another day of school and our Veteran's Day Assembly...So I took some pictures so she could see what went on...Here are my students...ready to be called to the arena during 2nd Block.
The Musical selections by the all-city chorus always take my breath away. These are elementary school children...they are just babies...and it sounds like angels are singing!
Thank you to all who have served our country
and to your families who have sacrificed so much.

I am so happy to see that your school goes through with really showing appreciation for all our veterans. I don't think all schools do this. A big thank you to Ken and your Daddy***I love that your Mom has a companion..you are so lucky.
Great post!
What a wonderful tribute. All veterans and those currently serving should have something nice done for them today. Sometimes the best we can do is say "Thank You."
That's great you had a celebration at school to honor all these noble men and women who keep us safe and free!! God bless them all who are serving and have served. Pass on a big thank you to Ken!!
Please let your students know that I send a BIG THANK YOU! I'm the daughter of, wife of and mother of veterans, and if it was not for them our freedom would be gone!
That was beautifully said ... honoring our veterans is important at all ages, but especially for students, as it helps history sort of "come to life" for them. A big thank-you goes out to all our vets (including the ones in your own circle) for the sacrifices they made!
What a beautiful post, we owe a lot to our Veterans, our freedom, our lives. My father passed away in 2004, he was navy man and how he loved this country. It is so uplifting to see that schools still honor these men and all men of wars. God Bless, Hugs, Mary
I just posted about your blog, hope others read it, it was beautiful, Hugs, Mary
