Always Make a Proper Introduction

Remember Millie?
I found her homeless...at a Garage Sale...
when I was staying up at Mom's place.
I thought she was charming...
so I adopted her and brought her here to live with us.
She loves to sew, and I have entrusted her with these special vintage sewing scissors.
My mom treasured them for years.
She had gotten them from her Aunt Birdie.
Millie is now in our Foyer.
She greets any guest that may come to our door.
She is a gracious hostess.
The Foyer...
We teach in our Interior Design classes, that your Foyer is the 'Introduction' to your home.
It should reflect the colors and styles that you have chosen for the rest of your house.

Ours is small...very small...Only about 5'x7'...
So if there are more than 3 pairs of shoes on the floor, it becomes an obstacle course!
This sweet little chair came from the old county schoolhouse that was only a mile from our farm...
...But the perfect perch for putting on your shoes and waiting for a ride.

The mirror gives an illusion of more space,
and allows one to check their hair one more time before leaving the house.

And my Grandma's hats...
some of you have seen them before...
This one is my favorite.
And this keepsake...
A gift to my mom, so many years ago.
This spring I added these vintage keys...
on sale at the Pottery Barn.
I am so happy to be home.
Mom is receiving good care in the Assisted Living Facility.

So I am going to tackle my summer cleaning...
(I think most teachers 'save' their big projects for the summer months, when their time is more flexible.)
I usually start in the foyer...
It's quick...It's easy...I can check it off my list...

Millie and I would love to have you stop in for a visit.

Take care,
~Natalie

So beautiful. I love Millie. My foyer certainly lets everyone know what they are walking into in my house. Shoes, coats, hats, shoes(more of them), a mini sock monkey, and some Jade Asian art.. sigh.

Hi, Natalie! Your foyer is darling, and you've given me some inspiration for doing something about mine. Mine's a bit of a decorating challenge, since it opens to the living and dining area, being defined only by the difference in flooring. I do have a mirror hanging (vertically), and after seeing yours, I think I'll switch it to horizontal and come up with something to display above it, such as you've done with your hats. Thanks for the great ideas!

I love Millie and your foyer.
The hats are just so special...your precious items in your home show how much family means to you. And that is a wonderful thing!
Glad Mom is doing well.
