Just an Old Fashioned Love Story, Part 2 ~Their Honeymoon

On this day, 69 years ago, my parents were married.
Remember this post, Love Story, Part 1 Mom had recorded their wedding details in her bridal book.

Well, I read through it again this morning and realized
that I promised to come back and tell you their honeymoon story...
"After the ceremony, Kermit taxied us in a round-about way to Niles, where our pickup was hidden from all 'would be pranksters'.  We picked up our bags at home, then to Grand Forks. Kermit passed us and later we had steaks with him in East Grand Forks. We got the last room in the Hotel Northern...stayed till Tuesday afternoon. Spent some time shopping for furniture, in vain.

Tuesday afternoon we motored to Winnepeg...a hot day. Registered at the Canadian border for the first time.  Hotel rooms just weren't available so we retracked 25 miles to St. Agathe...small hotel. The next day we hunted for a cabin (Pembina Cabins-shower + bath!) We ate barbeque chicken at Hollywood Inn while listening to Louis - Conn fight.  Shopped in Winnepeg for sheets, etc. and saw the show 'A Sailor Takes a Wife'

Friday afternoon we made it a point to be in Bowesmont for Kermit's dance. Spent till Sunday at his apartment in Grand Forks.  On the drive home we saw a barn struck by lightening.  Stopped in Michigan (ND) and Devils Lake and got home by Tuesday, 7 pm"

And check this out...
it appears that the gas for their entire honeymoon trip
cost less than $12.00.
My, how times have changed!

Happy Anniversary, Mom and Dad,
now together, in your heavenly home.

Take care,
~Natalie

Your mom and dad look like such a sweet and loving couple! I love to see old photos with the hairdos and clothing from back in those days. How exciting it must have been for them to go to a show and shop together as man and wife for the first time! Life was so much simpler and in many ways richer back then. Great post and yes Happy Anniversary to your mom and dad!
