Road Trip to Visit Family and Friends ~On our Way to the Grandsons’ House ~Travel Day Two ~Brewery Tour ~A Blast from the Past

Best to get up and on the road early.
First stop, the Golden Arches for our driver’s Diet Coke.

A quick second stop to purchase a coffee for
 the passenger who’s riding shotgun.

Where is Cat Boy Meow?

Just stretching our legs at a rest stop.

Since Papa prefers to drive,
Gigi entertains herself with hand stitching.
It’s time to get creative…
Countdown to Winterfest is 11 weeks.

On Papa’s Bucket List was a tour of the Yuengling Brewery
 in Pottsville, Pennsylvania.

Established in 1829,
it is the oldest family owned Brewery in the country.

Our tour guide was full of stories about
the family, the men that worked there, and the history.

Much of the tour took place underground in a cave,
an ideal temperature for the brewing process.
They closed off the cave with a brick wall during prohibition.

Those that worked on the line ate lunch here
while enjoying a couple of cold ones!
I guess beer doesn’t get any fresher than that.

Beautiful stained glass windows let in some natural light.

The Brewing Process, illustrated.

Their Work Shop was huge, the envy of the men in our tour group.

The portraits are of the Yuengling Family.

Like all Brewery Tours, we ended up in the Tasting Room
for a couple of samples. Then of course,
we exit through the gift shop to purchase
souvenirs and some of our favorite beer.

Papa purchased the Light Lager to bring home and enjoy.
Yuengling is not sold west of Indiana.

It was an interesting and informative stop along our road trip.

After traveling a couple of hours down the road,
we pulled off  interstate onto a scenic overlook.
It was time to go online and secure a Hotel Room for the night.

This time, we were not as lucky as we usually are,
there was nothing available up the road in our budget.

However, if we backtracked a few miles,
back into Pennsylvania, we could stay here.
A roadside Motel, like the places we stayed
with our parents when growing up.

Across the highway, another “blast from the past”,
Balch’s Fish and Seafood.
It reminded me of the Supper Club that
I went to with my parents for special occasions.

This was my opportunity to splurge and order
my favorite, Broiled Scallops.
Look at that presentation.
The doily under my plate made me smile.

Back in the Motel Parking. See Papa over there?
He’s getting our things out of the back of our pickup.

Then we sat outside..in the parking lot..on the tailgate
to enjoy a beverage from our cooler before going inside for the night.
The bed was comfy, the bathroom was clean…
Our Blast from the Past Adventure was pretty groovy!

The next morning,
I walked down to the Motel office to get a cup of coffee.

Then we were on the road again.

The last state before we get to our
Daughter, Son-in-Law, and Grandsons.

We were less than three hours away,
but didn’t want to arrive too early and disrupt nap/quiet time.
So we wasted a little time here, purchasing essentials.

We also did not want to arrive hungry,
so we stopped for a little brunch.

A sweet beginning to the second half
of our vacation visiting family.

Take care,
~Natalie
