Someone Special Sunday ~Monday Memories ~A Visit from our Foreign Exchange Daughter

Every few years we are blessed to have a visit
from one of the girls that lived with us for a school year.
You all remember Nellie...

...can you believe it has been seven years since
this day when she arrived in our hometown airport?!

And here she is, sitting at our table again.
Another familiar face across from us, was Katie.
She had many a meal with us while they were in high school.
It was also a pleasure to meet Jonas,
Nellie’s boyfriend, who traveled with her from Denmark.

Since I am still not very handy in the kitchen,
Hubby took charge of making his fabulous brunch.
Eggs, Toast, Bacon, and Hashbrowns...
he has perfected that technique so the hashbrowns are
moist in the center and crispy on the outside.

Of course the girls had to recreate this photo
of their first outing together...
cheering on our Golden Eagle Football Team.

Their friendship was a match made in heaven,
as Katie’s home was just across the street behind us.
In the summertime you can barely see their driveway.
But in the wintertime, Nellie could look out the window
and see when Katie’s car was there...
that meant she was home from dance!
Those nice neighbors behind us gave the girls permission
to run through their yard, between the houses,
to spend some time together.

Our time together went fast, and we said our goodbyes.
Nellie and Jonas have planned a side trip to
vacation in the Black Hills and Mount Rushmore.

But first a parting gift...
Nellie brought some Danish candy.
By the way, this was one of my dad’s favorites!

Thanks for spending some time with us.

Take care,
~Natalie

Monday Memories ~Five Years of Blogworthy ~Looking Back

Since retirement, I have found that some days
are not so blogworthy. Today, I ran my Roomba...

...and he got stuck behind the Christmas Tree.

I know, how do you make a blog post about that?
So, I thought I should look back in my photo files to see
what was happening on January 8th, in previous years.

January 8, 2017
It must have been Pot Roast Sunday.
I actually made pot roast yesterday, too. I prefer just salt and pepper seasoning,
with onion, and then I add potatoes and carrots.

And, it looks like I spent some time in my Sewing Studio.

January 8, 2016
This is a Game Preserve near our family farm where I grew up.
We would visit there several times every summer.

I'm sure I posted this photo, as the NDSU Bison were
playing in the National Championship game.

January 8, 2015
It appears I was making soup for my Knitting Club at school.

Remember, I would make a crockpot of soup,
and students would give up their lunch to eat quickly,
and then knit scarves for the Special Olympic Athletes.

January 8, 2014
All set for a dinner party.

The "kids" table.

The "kids" were not so little.
Our foreign exchange daughter, Nellie, in the center,
was here for a visit.

It is always good to share a meal with family and friends.

I hope you had a Marvelous Monday,
with blogworthy moments.

Take care,
~Natalie

Thanksgiving Greetings to Family and Friends ~The Empty Chair Prayer ~Precious Memories

Many of us will be missing loved ones during this holiday season.

Perhaps you have seen this Empty Chair Prayer
shared on Facebook...

Oh, how my mother loved Thanksgiving.
This was the last year (2009) she traveled
to spend the holiday in our home.

Her "gentleman friend" would bring her to stay with us,
while he traveled on to Minnesota to visit his son.

Here she is with Aunt Olivia and Hubby's Mom
enjoying some pumpkin pie and more coffee...

...while the younger generation cleaned up the kitchen.
We would always sing Christmas Carols when we did the dishes on Thanksgiving.

Our daughters and their husbands were just here
in August for Wedding Week,
so cannot be here for the holidays this year.

I cherish my memories of the Thanksgivings
and Black Fridays that we were able to spend together!

Hugs and prayers for all of you
that are missing loved ones this holiday.

Cherish the time you have with family and friends.

Take care,
~Natalie

Look Who's Back in Town ~What'cha Workin' on Wednesday ~~Did You All Want to See Our New Furnace?

Our foreign exchange daughter, Nellie,
has returned for a visit this summer.
She lived with us during the 2012-2013 school year.

She came back to visit her friends that she made in high school...
but she also wanted to spend a little time with us.
Hubby grilled a nice steak and some potato wedges.

I added strawberries and
sliced almonds to our green salad.

Our bride has given us an assignment to try different cupcakes.
So we had these for dessert.

You all remember that last week we had to have
a new furnace and AC unit installed.

Well, here she is...
all in place.

This was a great opportunity to clean and
organize all of the shelves in the laundry room.

I hope you all had a wonderful Wednesday.
Take care,
~Natalie

TGIF and Where the Week Went ~Love my Foreign Exchange Students ~~and it was Turkey Time again

We have this saying here in the midwest...
"if you don't like the weather, stick around for 5 minutes."

I am enjoying 3 foreign exchange students this term.
Cam is from France. We posed for this photo as we were matching one day.
He and I spend half of our school day together, as he is in my Foods class and in Independent Living.

This is Elmine, such a sweet girl from Norway.
Here she is telling us about her country and her culture.

And this is Lukas from Denmark.
I just love his sense of humor.

My foods class is first block this term.
And you all know about my turkey dinner.
I needed to have the bird in the oven very early...6:10 to be exact.

And you've all met our Assistant Principal and Resource Officer.
It is tradition for them to carve the turkeys.
You can see that we are ready to eat by shortly after 9 a.m.

We enjoy a brief presentation and then...we Dish Up!

Today's highlight...
My Independent Living class is all Juniors and Seniors.
We focus on preparing for life after high school.

My friend who is in graduate studies at Northern State University coordinated a panel to speak to my Independent Living students about their transition from high school to college.

It was a great way to end my school week.

And now the weekend begins...

Take care,
~Natalie

Mother's Day Blessings to all who Nurture and Care for Children

Happy Mother's Day.

My favorite Mother's Day Memories are those occasions
that I spent the day with my mother and our daughters.

I am so happy that we we able to do that in 2012.
Since then, my mother has moved to her heavenly home,
and our nest here is empty.

My hubby's sister has always hosted our Mother's Day meal.
Here with Line in 2010...

and here with Nellie in 2013.
Sweet memories.

This quote appeared on my newsfeed a couple of weeks ago,
and I thought I'd share it here with you, today.

I hope you are all spending this special day
with someone special.

Take care,
~Natalie

It’s National Pumpkin Day ~A Versatile Fruit… Or is a Vegetable??

It’s a fruit, as it is a product of the seed-bearing structure of flowering plants. Or like I’d say to my 9th grade Basic Foods Class, “It’s...
