Spending Time with Family ~Weekend Road Trip ~NYC ~World Trade Center Memorial

It was Memorial Day Weekend.
The 9/11 Memorial is a must-see when visiting NYC.
We all can remember exactly where we were and what we were doing
when we learned of that horrific attack.

The National September 11 Memorial & Museum
 in New York City
commemorates the September 11, 2001, attacks
which killed 2,977 people,
and the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, which killed six.

This impressive piece of architecture is the first thing you see
when approaching on foot.

The structure itself is the portrayal of a bird
about to take a flight from the hands of a young boy
to show that no matter what obstacle the city
faces it will always be hopeful.

It was completed in March 2016 as a new
World Trade Center Transportation Hub.
It replaced the PATH Train Station that was destroyed on 9/11

There are tall glass windows along each side.
Amy and I took a peek inside to discover
an elite two-story shopping mall.

We were not there to shop.
We were there, with so many others, to pay tribute to the many
who lost their lives on that day.

Called “Reflecting Absence,” the Memorial consists
of two pools (one in each tower’s footprint void)
surrounded by trees and by walls
containing the names of the victims

The site had been visited by loved ones that left white roses…

Or flags on the names.

Our Memorial Day holiday is observed on the last Monday in May
to honor the men and women who have died while serving in the military.

We honor all those who made that ultimate sacrifice.

And here, we honor all the men and women
who rushed into save the lives of innocent victims.

This was a somber experience.
I’m so glad we were able to visit the site.

Treasure the time you have with your family and friends.
Squeeze your children a little tighter
when you hug them goodnight.

Take, care,
~Natalie
