Where the Week Went ~Start Your Day with Protein ~Early Morning Visitors ~Our Kitchen Project ~~Corned Beef Hash Recipe Link

Have you tried making an Omelet in a Baggie?
My Fitness for Life students enjoyed personalizing their own
with peppers, onions, spinach, ham and cheese.

Perhaps the most school excitement I have had in years...
two large and loveable dogs were frolicking in our parking lot.
By the time I parked my vehicle,
students had used their lanyards to create a choke collar to control the dogs.
Since there was much traffic and below zero temperatures,
the best option was to bring my students and the pups into my entry way.

Our School Resource Officer contacted Animal Control
and by the time the first bell rang, the dogs were in good hands.

On Thursday, we were hosting Parent/Teacher Conferences...

and all of a sudden, this happened!

On the Home Front
We finally replaced our range hood that has not worked for months.
It's installation was the first step in our kitchen project.

Next up...backsplash tiles.
Stay tuned to see how it turns out!

It's that time of year to pick up a Corned Beef Brisket.
I roasted this one in my Crockpot,
and look forward to Hubby's Corned Beef Hash.

Enjoy what's left of the Weekend.

Take care,
~Natalie

January 28th...This Date ~Remembering my Mother ~~More Weekday Highlights ~~~Saturday's Work: A Sadly Worn-out Kitchen

January 28, 2013.
This date will forever stick in my mind.
That was the morning that our landline phone rang at 6:50 a.m...
it was the director of the Odd Fellows Home.
Mom had fallen and was taken by ambulance to the hospital.
I went to work to wait...and wait...and wait to hear what was next.

Our last visit with her had been in December,
to celebrate Christmas.
I was showing her photos on my computer
and then took this one of us together.

The staff took such good care of her there.
We said our goodbyes,
she was seated for their evening meal,
and then hubby and I left for our four-hour journey home.
Why didn't anyone tell me that this is the last time
I would see her in this place?

The next 10 days were a roller coaster of emotional decisions.
It comforts me to know that mom is now peaceful,
and no longer suffers from the struggles of her daily life.

Back to the here and now...
Remember, it was Officer Carlson Omelet week.
We have been teaching this activity together for 12+ years.
And this year, it was our last.

I will treasure these memories.
He so patiently works with each and every student
to assure they master the process.

This term, his Sergeant stopped by.
He had a chance to see Officer Carlson interacting with the students.

Besides learning how to make omelets,
the students learn that police officers are people, too!

One of my FACS co-teachers was sharing my classroom on Friday.
The Real Care Baby Daycare was in my room.

Everytime I walked by, the babies just made me smile.
My freshmen girls decided that this baby's eyebrows are "on fleek".
And ...as I was holding another baby,
one of my sophomore boys said,
"Mrs. G., You know that baby isn't real, don't you?!"

Yes, there are many things I will miss about my job!

My mother would always call on the weekend.
She would say, "I suppose you are doing
Saturday's Work".

Our next project is in the kitchen.
The rangehood will be replaced.
While the light works, the fan does not.
The microwave has been shooting sparks since the holidays.
And one of our burners on the range does not heat up.

I will post photos of our progress!

Today, my Mother-in-law treated us to lunch after church.
And my "To Go" box will provide lunch at work tomorrow.

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Take care,
~Natalie

What'cha Workin' on Wednesday ~Officer Carlson Omelet Day

I was up and out early this morning.

I appreciate my cart...
it took only two trips to get
all the supplies in for the day!

Peppers, onions,
mushrooms, tomatoes...

Senior students "volunteer" to help with mise en place.

Yummy!

Students line up to wash their hands,
whip their eggs,
and then take their turn at the grill.

Thank you Officer Carlson.

How did you spend your Wednesday?

Take care,
~Natalie

Finaly Friday

I usually wake early. I accomplish a few chores around the house before I go to work...less now that we have an empty nest...I go to the grocery store to get the necessay supplies for the day's lesson plan...and I check my www places for any activity. Well, today I had my first sale on Etsy...I was so excited that I startled the cats!! I've heard others refer to this as the "Happy Dance"! What I sold, was a Simple Pumpkin. I like this pumpkin because you can set it out now and leave it out until after Thanksgiving!

At school, I start my day with my Fitness for Life class. They work out every other day with one of the PE teachers. The other two days a week we meet in the FACS room to discuss nutrition and prepare a healthy recipe. Today they made Omelets...the freezer baggie kind. The kids think this is awesome. They call them egg burritos, egg pillows, etc. They are impressed. Here are the directions.
INGREDIENTS
2 eggs
Ham, chopped
Shredded Cheddar cheese
Chopped onion
Chopped green bell pepper
Chopped fresh tomato
Chunky salsa
Fresh mushrooms, sliced

DIRECTIONS
1. Crack the eggs into a large resealable freezer bag. Press out most of the air, and seal. Shake or squeeze to beat the eggs. Open the bag, and add the ham, cheese, onion, green pepper, tomato, salsa, and mushrooms. Squeeze out as much of the air as you can, and seal the bag.
2. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Place up to 8 bags at a time into the boiling water. Cook for exactly 13 minutes. Open the bag, and let the omelet roll out onto a plate. The omelet should roll out easily.

Of coarse, all the add-ins are optional. The beauty is that you can individualize these omelets.

Fall is for Friends and more Football ~ It Looks Like I’ve got some Catching Up To Do

It has been a Busy Month for these retired empty nesters. Imagine if we were working and away from home for nine hours a day?! And what’s be...
