Things in my House Thursday ~ the Little things that make me Happy

I absolutely love vintage dress forms...

Perhaps it is my fond memories of my mother sewing her own clothing...
fitting them perfectly to her dress form.
(I wish I knew what happened to her dress form.
It is no where to be found...)

On our recent trip to visit our daughters, we all stopped at several antique stores.
Most shop owners looked at us like
"Good Luck, dress forms are impossible to find."

But, Monday morning...on our way home...
in a small town in southern Minnesota,
We found her...

This little gem, looking for a new home...

She has one here!

Take care,
~Natalie

Love Story ~ Sixty Five Years Ago

June 16th...
My parents were married on this day.
I just got off the phone with my mom, she reminded me that this would have been their sixty-fifth anniversary.
In the 1940's, it was typical for the bride to wear a nice suit...
then she could wear it again, for other special occasions.
Here is their romantic engagement story...
"Thanksgiving Vacation, 1945. I took the bus from Michigan and arrived in Devils Lake about 2 hours late. My 'Special Taxi' with the 'Special Driver' (Cliff) was waiting patiently as he often did. We drove the pickup up Main Street and parked in front of Mitchell's. There, under the cold, silvery moon and in the shadow of the tall, icy buildings, with the wind howling soft music (!) he slipped his diamond ring on my finger. (Time 9p.m. November 21, 1945 Wednesday)
Bud Stensby was the first to notice the ring. After a lunch we went home -- but there was a lot of snow, so we got stuck and waited til daylight and walked the rest of the way. It was Thanksgiving Day then.
No one was surprised about our engagement. Wonder why??"

The wedding party was small.
The Maid of Honor, Fern, was my mom's sister.
The Best Man, Raymond, was my dad's brother.
My dad's sister, Shelene was a beautiful pianist.
His sister, Ardis, had a lovely voice.
"Oh Perfect Love" was a part of our wedding 30 years ago.
Some of the guests...

Some of the gifts...

The Honeymoon Story
(Since this is getting long...I think I will share this with you another day.)
Do you recognize their home?
It is the one that is surrounded by water,

The last page of mom's Bride's Book had some newspaper clippings and cards.
They often shared their anniversay with Father's Day Celebrations.
Their wedding day was no different.

And last of all, my love for all
We're going to share together.
All my love, Ruth

Take care,
~Natalie

This book is one of the precious keepsakes in my mom's cedar chest.
Since my mom is now in an assisted living center, it has a place in our family room.
The contents of the chest are just as she placed them...years ago...
